History
Peter and Karen Nicholes planted and ran several home groups from Dandenong to Frankston
In February a small group of 20 committed adults left the South Eastern Christian Centre and established a church in the Nepean Special School hall, Seaford. It was known as New Life Christian Centre.
The Assembly grew to over 100 people and was established as a church and Ps Peter went full time. We also started regular night meetings. In October 1988 we moved to the Seaford Community Hall with approximately 200 people attending our 2 Sunday Services.
Ps’ Peter and Karen attended the School of the Prophets in Malaysia beginning a long term Apostolic connection with Dr. Jonathan David.
By this time we had doubled and over 400 people were attending both Services at Seaford.
The assembly moved to the Facility in the Leisureland Fun Park and changed our name to Southern Lights Christian Centre.
Following several months of contract negotiations it was decided that we would vacate the Leisureland complex at the end of December.
The assembly moved its Services to the Karingal Park Secondary College Ashleigh Avenue Campus. Ps. Peter attended the Master’s Commission Intensive in Spokane Washington, during November that year and came home ready to birth the Masters Commission, which has been running for over 10 years now.
Services were moved to the Belar Avenue Campus of Karingal Park Secondary College as Karingal High School was closed down. The Call to Discipling (formerly Covenant Call) course was started with 15 students completing the course. December saw the arrival of Bryan and Angie Mossey and Kim Pruneau in January to take up the positions of Interns for Master’s Commission a one-year full time training program for 18 – 25 year olds.
The Master’s Commission inaugural year with 6 students. Called to Discipling consolidated.
Connect Groups changed to Purpose Groups. We held our first Easter Family Camp at Merricks. We moved in to the facility in Skye which gave us plenty of space for Dr. Jonathan David’s conference and our Christmas Cabaret. Our theme for the year is “God is Big”.
Having a building of our own has given us a sense of stability and focus for all our many and varied activities. Significant events: The Caleb Institute training for Ps Karen and some training for our leaders and MC students; Gordon Moore teaching on stages of church growth; an in depth study of our 7 Pillars; we begin our training affiliation with ACOM. Our theme for the year is “Passion to Pursue Destiny”.
Many structures and systems have been put into place to support future growth. Ps’ Peter Ingram, Ps Caleb Nicholes and Ps Wendy Rodriguez were ordained as ministers and became carrying more responsibility within the church. Ps’ Peter and Karen attended the Global Leaders Summit in Malaysia with Dr Jonathan David and then in November he came and declared a the future breaking out of the supernatural within our church.
Increase in desperation for the power of God, the supernatural and the movement of the Holy Spirit lead to an outbreak of miracles after a Bill Johnson conference attended by a small contingent of church members. Weeks later followed our inaugural youth camp, FORCE. The teenagers were powerfully encountered and came back and deeply impacted the entire congregation. Since then Southern Lights has harboured a powerful Revival Spirit called Zion. The Masters Commission and Called to Discipling came under the one banner, Excelerate.
An unprecedented move of Gods power beyond what has ever been seen in Southern Lights overtook our church. God opened opportunities to minister all over Australia and Zion broke out wherever we went. Excelerate, Apostolic training exploded in the church with 24 students and Dr Jonathan David came in November and declared, Revival Now to Australia.
