Southern Lights Purpose Statement to Change a Nation
Our mission is to reach the world with the love of Christ and bring them into membership into Christ's family the Church, restoring them to Christlike maturity through discipling and establishing them in their God given ministry so they can be released to be Christ's ambassadors.
1. Mission
Ephesians 2:1-6 "As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath. But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions - it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus"
Reach out to a lost world who needs Christ
Evangelising the Community. Souls are Kingdom building material. The most important eternal
assets in the Kingdom of God are people. Reaching Souls through relationship and Community Contact points.
2. Membership
Ephesians 2 : 19-22 "Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow-citizens with God's people and members of God's household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit."
Members (Partners) in the body of Christ - A spiritual house. Connecting through the multifaceted expressions of the house.
3. Maturing
Ephesians 4 : 12 - 15 "to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ."
Mature saints through discipling and training into Christ's likeness.
4. Ministry
Ephesians 4 :3 - 7, 11 "Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit just as you were called to one hope when you were called - one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it. It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers."
Discovering the grace on your life to be a minister for Christ.
Pillars
"Wisdom has built her house; she has hewn out its seven pillars" Proverbs 9:1 (NIV)
1. Networking
We are called to go to country towns and third world countries. (John 17:18, Matthew 9:35 - Matthew 10:1 & 5, Acts 2:42) We carry a powerful message that opens up many doors around our nation.
2. Prophetic
We believe that all the church has the ability to hear the voice of God and obey it and in so doing, will be able to "Walk in the Spirit and not fulfil the lusts of the flesh." (Matthew 4: 3, Acts 2: 17 - 19, John 5: 18 & 19, Galatians 5: 22) We run a School of the Prophets and have a powerful prophetic influence into the nations. We value that prayer and intercession pave the way for God to move both in our own lives and in our nation. We therefore recognise that prayer and intercession are an essential forerunner for everything we do as a church.
3. Community
We value evangelism that leads to disciples, not just decisions, and that matures men and women so that they can "Go into all the World and make disciples". (Matthew 28: 18 - 20) We outreach into our community to mothers, schools, youth events and old age homes.
4. Training
We believe that, through our School Of Ascension, all the church can be fully developed into an "Ascension Gift" and that those gifts are required for the maturing of the Saints and that this training is for all people regardless of age. (Ephesians 4: 11 - 15) We run a fulltime discipling school for young adults and a part-time discipling course for adults. We are a Local Net Training Institute under Australian College of Ministry's (ACOM) RTO status.
5. Connecting
We value that God has commanded us to care for one another. We recognise that this care may have many aspects emotionally, spiritually and physically, and that our care for one another is foundational in our relationships with one another. We believe this is mainly carried out through small groups called Connect 2 Groups. We believe transparency and honesty in relationships is crucial to help us connecting with each other. (Ephesians 4:15)
6. Worship
We believe that a corporate anointing is released as believers, who are individually developing a lifestyle of praise and worship, come together to worship God. This worship is expressed in a variety of forms including: singing, dancing, shouting, clapping and raising our hands. (Romans 12:1) Also we are called to worship through service.
We value that every person in the church can serve others and that much of what the church desires to achieve, both within the church and in our community, can only be done if there are people willing to help.
